Decades of Experience
in your Backyard
Our instructors, many of whom are NJ residents, have decades of experience performing and teaching improvisation and have trained with Master Improv Instructors from Second City,Upright Citizens Brigade, IO Chicago, the Annoyance, and the Groundlings. You no longer need to travel into the city for quality improv training!
"Rocket Improv's classes have made my child open up in unexpected ways. Not only has he tapped into his inner comedian and is developing a wicked sense of humor, but he has also really learned to listen and focus on other people. He has learned that to be an effective communicator and performer, he must first be observant, attentive and able to understand others. All this is happening while he’s having a ball!"
"Improv provides a brilliant distraction to a work week of answering phones, attending meetings and sitting at the computer. Improv builds confidence and sparks creativity. I highly recommend Rocket Improv's caring and inspiring instructors who infuse humor and talent with gentle critiques designed to bring out the best in you!"
"My daughter always comes out of improv energized and bubbling over. She has a great time and seems primed with good ideas! I would also say it is a safe space for kids to be silly, to be themselves."
2nd – 4th grades
The main mission for the Bottle Rockets is to learn improv through creative and imaginative play! Basic foundational improv techniques are introduced through simple age appropriate exercises and games. The children are constantly creating their own scenes and characters, and cooperative play and teamwork is encouraged throughout. The students share what they have learned for family during the final class.
The Jet Packs learn improv through playing various improv games and exercises that focus on skills such as agreement, teamwork, character creation, emotional work, object/environment work, confidence, and presentational skills. They perform in a professionally hosted short-form improv showcase at the end of their session.
6th – 8th grades
After an improv student has completed at least two Jet Pack sessions, then he or she is eligible for the Rocketeers class! Placement in the Rocketeers is based on age, ability, and an effort to keep class ensembles in tact as much as possible. The students continue to hone their improv skills with advanced exercises and more complex short-form style improv games. Rocketeers are also able to attend the annual Rocket Improv Field Trip into New York City where the students take a workshop with an advanced level improv instructor and see an improv show. The students perform a short-form improv showcase at the end of their session that they host entirely themselves.
Blast Off for Teens
9th – 12th grades
Rocketeers who have developed into a performing ensemble through their time together and wish to continue their training become their own improv troupe. They create their own identity and have a say in the direction of their own improv training. They are provided with rehearsal space, performance opportunities, a director and an end of session professional level hour-long improv show.

Classes for Adults and Teens
We do not offer beginner classes for adults and teens at this time. We can however organize a private class for you. If you have a group of friends or an improv team that wishes to train together, we can set you up with a space and qualified instructor to help guide you.
For beginner improv classes we recommend our friends…
Both of these organizations allow high school aged teens to register for their improv classes. Please reach out if you have any questions.
